Regional description
The Yorke and Northern region encompasses the Yorke Peninsula, significant areas of Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent, Southern Flinders Ranges, and the Mid North. The Major urban centres are Port Pirie, Clare, Burra, Peterborough, Kadina, Moonta and Wallaroo. Main medical services are delivered through by Port Pirie Regional Health Service Clare Hospital and Health Service and Northern Yorke Peninsula Health Service at Wallaroo.
Residents in the Yorke and Northern Local Health Network have access to a wide range of health care services within the Yorke Peninsula, Southern Flinders and Lower and Mid North Areas of South Australia.
Residents in the Yorke and Northern area have access to a wide range of health care services including accident and emergency, day and inpatient surgery, Aboriginal health, obstetrics, community health and aged care services. The Port Pirie Regional Health Service provides the main service hub with other facilities located in surrounding areas. These include 8 residential aged care facilities (totalling 182 aged care beds) and a range of community based facilities.
Live, Work, Play
Yorke Peninsula offers stunning beaches and friendly local towns including historic inland mining towns. It is surrounded by sea and is one of South Australia’s most accessible seaside escape locations with breathtaking national parks where emus, kangaroos, tammar wallabies and many bird species can be seen. It is a place to experience a diverse menu of seafood including crayfish, scallops and King George whiting from local providers. You will also find plenty of bakeries, craft breweries and distilleries. Walking trials, diving, surfing and cycling are just some of the recreational activities Yorke Peninsula has to offer. Families are catered for by the exciting playground areas and parks found in Wallaroo and the splash town water park in Moonta.
Mid North region is renowned for its superb rural panoramas, culturally unique townships and settlements and is South Australia’s gateway to the outback and southern Flinders Ranges. The area is made up of ancient and dramatic landscapes, peaceful tree lined gorges and a wealth of native wildlife. A place to experience outback camping, four wheel driving, cycling and photography. Clare Valley sits within this region and offers some of South Australia’s best wines with abundant cellar doors to explore.

Clare
Clare is a 90 minute drive north of Adelaide and is situated in the beautiful Clare Valley. Clare is home to over 30 wineries, most of which are small and family run. Known as the home of Australian Riesling, it’s one of Australia’s oldest wine producing areas with a wine-making history dating back over 160 years.
Experience the Clare Valley Riesling Trail or hike through the Red Banks Conservation Park with it’s rich red cliffs and spring fed waterholes or the Spring Gully Conservation Park. There is also the Landscapes of Change interpretive walking trail to learn about what the landscape was like when megafauna walked the earth like the giant wombat.
The Clare Valley has a range of festivals and events and markets over the year including the Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend, which is held in May of every year, when cellar doors, restaurants, cafe’s and other venues across the region host black tie dinners, wine tastings and concerts.
There a number of local schools, both primary and secondary and the usual array of shops including some major retailers. Consider dining out at one of the many restaurants or cafe’s enjoying modern Australian cuisine to Italian.

Crystal Brook
Crystal Brook is located 200 km north of Adelaide and 111 metres above sea level.
Crystal Brook is a quiet rural service centre in the heart of some of South Australia’s most productive sheep and wheat country. It describes itself as the town “Where the Flinders Begin”.
As a rural service centre in sheep and wheat country and home of the Nukunu Aboriginal people you will find quaint coffee, bakery and antique shops, hardware, supermarkets and other shops for all the basic amenities and only a couple of hours drive away from Adelaide.
You are also an easy day trip away to the neighbouring Clare wine region, the mining history of Burra, the waterfront activities of Port Broughton or to the vast landscapes of the Flinders’ Ranges.

Jamestown
Jamestown is a town in the Mid North region of South Australia 207kms north of Adelaide. It lies on the banks of the Belalie Creek and on the Crystal Brook – Broken Hill railway line between Gladstone and Peterborough, and ultimately on the main line linking Adelaide and Perth to Sydney.
Jamestown is famous for its historical past, railway heritage and the town that RM Williams grew up in. The Community School offers R-12 and there is a Catholic R-7 primary school and a small range of shops and supermarkets and restaurants for eating out.
